The History of the NBA
NBA is the men’s premier basketball league enjoyed all over the world. It is one of the four major sports leagues for professionals. The league was bornon 6th June 1946 in New York City. As such, it was first introduced in the United States but later expanded to Canada in 1995.
However, by then, it’s name was the BAA (Basketball Association of America). The name changed to its current one as a result of merging with the National Basketball league (NBL) on 3rd August 1949.
In 1967, the NBA faced massive competition after the American Basketball Association (ABA) was introduced. The latter came to serve the areas where the NBA didn’t cover. With the former NBA star George Mikan as their first commissioner, ABA had a more entertaining and high-scoring basketball league than the NBA.
Therefore, NBA had to up their game. This led to an intense bidding war between the two basketball leagues.
However, the population served by ABA was way less than that served by NBA. As a result, the former was in no position to compete with the latter. Despite securing many fans, ABA couldn’t generate enough revenue to survive on its own.
Therefore, seven ABA owners agreed to merge with NBA. NBA now took four of ABA’s most successful franchises – the Indiana Pacers, the Denver Nuggets, the San Antonio Spurs, and the New York Nets. This merger occurred on 5th August 1976 but was publicly announced on June 17, the same year.
Normally, the NBA’s season runs each year from October to April. In such a season, each team plays 82 matches. The league comprises of 30 teams, 29 from the US and one from Canada.

NBA Betting Lines
Most NJ bookies have special betting lines for NBA bets. Simply put, a betting line a form of betting where the bookie operator handicaps a player or a team to efficiently make the match 50/50. This is done by setting a margin line between the two participants in the contest, where possible outcomes are only two.
You should understand what every NBA betting line entails before placing any bet. Here are the NBA betting lines you’ll find on NJ online sportsbooks.
Point spreads allow you to bet on the margin of victory on any NBA match. If you use this bet on NBA games, you’ll predict which team will win or lose and the number of points the team will win or lose by. Point spreading betting lines are marked by either + or – symbols.
If a team has a + point spread line, it means that the team has to win the match outright. In case the team doesn’t win, it has to lose the game by fewer points than those indicated in the line. If a team has a – point spread, it shows that the team will win the match by more points than those indicated in the line.
A moneyline is a bet where you predict the team to win. However, this bet’s odds vary, with the lowest odds on the favored team and the highest odds on the underdog. Simply put, an underdog is the team expected to lose in the match. So, while placing a moneyline is easy, understanding how the bet pays can be a little bit daunting.
This is because the favored and the underdog teams are paid on different schedules. The favored team is marked by a negative number, which is the amount of money you must wager to earn $100. Also, for the underdog, you’ll find a positive number, which is the amount of money you win after wagering $100.
This bet type is usually associated with the total points scored by the two contestants. As such, over/under bets have nothing to do with which team loses or wins or the number of points a team loses or wins by.
Instead, the bet aims at predicting if the total points will be over (higher than) the over/under number set by the bookie or under (Lower that) it.
